Our Senior Counsellor is available to meet with individual students to discuss a wide range of issues and concerns and to assist in any crisis. A student might just want to chat or could be looking for advice about the learning process or organization of study efforts, seeking personal support, therapy or referral to outside help. Consultations are confidential and care is taken that cultural awareness is shown in interactions with our students from many backgrounds.

Common issues that students seek help for include:

  • loneliness, culture shock, homesickness
  • mental and emotional health issues such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders
  • learning difficulties and disabilities
  • issues affecting attendance and academic performance
  • personal issues and relationships
  • sexual health, harassment, discrimination and bullying
  • addictions such as gambling, alcohol and drugs
  • trauma, loss and grief
  • plans for future study, academic problems
  • help with issues concerning family or friends
  • legal difficulties, some visa issues

In accordance with the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988, any issues discussed with our counsellor are confidential and will not be discussed without permission except where it is necessary to protect against serious threat to life or health.
